Haircut

Got my hair cut the other day.

Correction: Received a crappy haircut the other day.

I don't really get it. I have a tiny head, I'll admit that, but I also happen to desire the most simple possible hairstyle imaginable. Yet, as I have lamented in the past, I am unable to find a mediocre, let alone master, student of haircuttlery in the greater Minneapolitan region. After trying 5 different venues, I've resigned myself to the low, low prices of Cost Cutters (With the student discount). Somehow "His n' Hers" in Winona trumps every place in a city 30 times its size? I find that difficult to believe.

Well, it is true. So after another terrible cut, I conscripted the Blue Eyed Gopher's Cousin into hair-shortening detail providing her with little more than a 3 inch pair of safety scissors. As she was about to slice into my failed 'do, her mother, via telephone, prompted her: "Do you have any idea what you are doing?" To which she responded: "No" and began slicing and dicing (with whatever sliceability or diceability a set of safety scissors could be gifted with). The end result? Don't really care, but it sure looks a lot better than before.

Booyeah.

Parkour!!

I recently finished my finals week here at the University of Minnesota and had the opportunity to contemplate my future while riding an extraordinarily uncomfortable Megabus for some R&R down to Chicago. I've decided, after discussing it with my most senior and junior sibblings, that I am retiring as a grad student. I know: I'm as surprised as you are. You thought I'd be a carreer student. You thought I'd become the proverbial "Degree Whore."

Well, I'm not.

I'm training to become a traceur and unleash parkour on an unsuspecting midwest. Never again will I be stuck in a family event, forced to listen to some woman try to draw parallels between WWII concentration camps and my grandmother's life. Never again will I need to to use stairs to descend. Maybe I'll get a sweet movie deal. Oh, man, I'm freaking stoked.

Where are my weights? I gotta get huge.

Derby de Mayo!

Hey crew! It is currently thunder storming outside, which can only mean one thing: Minnesota Summer has arrived! In order to kick the whole thing off right, I placed a phone call to my well-connected, esteemed colleague and trusted tone bartenderliere, Dixie, for some helpful guidance in crafting a superior Derby Day Delicacy: The Mint Julep.

I've been told that Rockpolis is staunchly anti-Kentucky, let alone Kentucky Derby, but I swear to you that, compounded by unpredictable deluges, it is remarkably difficult to find mint leaves in the Polis on Derby day. After several false positives, EU and I struck leaf at the local Targhetto with just enough time to get back and watch the end of the Red Carpet Schmuluhu on the tuber. To pass the time, I concocted the beverages and the Blue Eyed Gopher's Cousin navigated the streets to my place. With my due diligence, the race went off without a hitch, but I can not say the same for the popularity of the seasonal spirit. They refused to drink it, the wimps. Instead they chose to rip a large hole in my pant leg and drag me to the mall.

After some delicates-flinging, I picked up some new pants. And a shirt. And went to use my Mug Club card. Things went downhill. We bombed, shot, and chugged our way around the cultural world and had some lovely margaritas, to boot. What are a few misplaced tortilla chips among friends? And a margarita down the back? Well, perhaps you should have been more careful. By the way, beware of Emily. She is an enabler. Just like my roommate in college who got us kicked out of our dorm section for convincing some idiots to drop a garbage bag full of water down 4 flights of stairs. She'll ruin you. She's cute, though.

Anyway, to celebrate the Independence of Mexico, our very close by neighbor, we hit the Bloco with a legendary crew. Some stuff happened. I almost Screeched Blake. Turns out that Blake is a lot bigger than Nips. Blah, blah, blah, Emily ruined my vacuum while cleaning up chips. Sucker. (Nice sucker?)

The events of the night were so extreme and involved so freaking many people (Every single one of whom was keenly interested in my Sunday morning health), that the atmosphere itself was rended in two. By morning, the aftermath wind was blowing so hard, it ripped down signs and scaffolding all over. It was pretty sweet and almost made me dream of living in a beach house while I was snagging my Z's.

Supersweet view of a University building project falling onto one of Minneapolis' busiest vias. Bwahaha.

And, by the way, I felt fine on Sunday. So forget you guys!

Not bad

An end to the awful month has arrived, ladies and gentlemen. I recently had some fantastic results with my research and last night graded my last homework assignment of the semester. I also made my presentations and am have only to write a couple reports and take a final before I can kick spring '07 to the curb. Thank God. I'm looking forward to an awesome summer, so if you're in the area, give your buddy Nips a jangle.

Not too much

Going down.

At least not that I want to write about. The weekend was pretty crazy. Went to a bunch of interesting watering holes and even joined in the annual Spring Jam concert/drunkfest nearby.

I gave a presentation on Monday and, once again, the animations stole the show. I've decided that an art major could make it through the EE degree if it wasn't for the homework.

Freaking homework. I am about to grade assignment number 11. This is a watershed moment, because I'm pretty sure that 11 honest individual assignments have been turned in to me so far this year. There are 60 kids in this class. I can't believe these kids are getting degrees.

Well, bye!
