27

July marked my 27th summer in the land of sky blue waters. To celebrate, Emily took me out to Manny's Steakhouse. And it was so incredibly good. Holy wow. Here's some meat:

And potatoes:

And a complimentary cake!

The place is absolutely amazing. You should try it.

Baby Steps, Bob.

Poseidon, look at meeee.

I went sailboat racing the other day on Lake Minnetonka (As in the waters you should purify yourself in). It was absolutely gorgeous and absolutely chaotic. There are hundreds of boats out there and many fleets all racing at the same time. The start is easily the most extreme part, as everybody is sailing around trying to make sure that they cross the starting line exactly when the canon fires. Poor Emily didn't realize what she was getting herself into and wore flip-flops and white shorts. Both of us had pretty banged up knees by the time the race was over, with all the tacking, jibing, and yanking on the halyard. Unfortunately, as we neared the end, we had a equipment malfunction, as the gooseneck, which connects the boom to the mast, suddenly flew apart and we had to improvise. Knocked us pretty far back in the race, though.

But, man, that lake is amazing. It is like a different world. There are many bays, towns, bars, mansions, and large, large, large stacks of cash surrounding it. Just beefy.

Don't you e'er forget.

Cubbies!

Oh yeah! And we went to a Cubs game. Pretty classic.

Wrigley. Fine enough.

Really the only reasonable pic I was in...

We were celebrating that one in the middle.

Paper Writing

Not sure if I've brought this to your attention before, but in case this is news, I'll bring it up again: I work in a hole. Way down, underground. Way, way down. Dear Liza. The lights down there are very yellow and I have to wear a bunny suit from head to toe. Often times I get to don a thick plastic apron to protect myself from just shockingly toxic chemicals that could kill me with only a couple drops on my skin. The apron does not breathe well. You might be surprised to learn that I don't really like being in the hole. Oh, you're not? Because I have definitely mentioned this many times over? Ahh.

Well, maybe not any longer. I just submitted another manuscript for publication and have plans for two more that will (hopefully) not require any more lab work. It is possible that I'll never have to go down in that stinking hole ever again! I mean, I might head down there just to play around a bit and see how much money I can burn up in as short of time as possible, but really, those days are numbered. It's pretty great, and my eyeballs are already celebrating.

Lappy 486

While it didn't get covered in Mountain Dew, destroyed by a shotgun, or blown up with a USB-self destruct cable, this little lappy had it's moment of all-exposed-like glory. Turns out it had been plugged in too many times, causing the jack to become poorly soldered to the motherboard. Since I'm a very benevolent cousin, I ripped the old boy apart and fixed him up, good as 5 years old.

iPhone 4

Well, that was fast.

Sayonara, Flaco Phone Razr. Your remarkably poor design led me to drop kick you back into the desk drawer where you came from. Honestly, I have no idea how that phone got so popular with such glaring UI issues. How can one button be both the delete and send button?? That doesn't make any sense!!

Anyway, out with the old, in with the awesome. That's right, kids, we've moved into the modern ages here in Marcy Holmes. Ol' Nipsy got an iPhone 4. And it is most certainly the hotness. I mean, it is really great. I even managed to get it a day before launch. Sure, I had to wait on my stoop all morning since Apple single-handedly crashed the FedEx tracking service, but it was completely worth it.

Happy Nips.

Speaking of, it is really annoying that Blogger doesn't have a mobile site.

Anyway, I purchased my first new phone since 2005, and I thought that you should know.

Later--

-Nips.
