Summertime Stuff
Hey crew--
It's summertime, so we're going to stick to a more laid back format to this post. Shooting from the hip, if you will.
Lessee... we'll start with the Steamboat Days Grand Parade. Every year the city of Winona celebrates its steamboat heritage (click here to see the destruction of its steamboat tradition) as a city that was born by the river and still finds itself dependent upon it for trade and enjoyment. Anyway, the parade featured the usual floats, bands, etc. It was slightly delayed in starting because one of the floats started on fire. Oops. Good thing there were a couple firefighters around. Or 50. Here is a picture of the Shriner's motorcycle acrobatics. It was one of 6 or so such identical shows, including shopping carts, mini-race cars, rascal scooters, and... some other stuff. Swap out the vehicle and keep the choreography the same. They'll never notice.

Also, there was a hole in a manhole cover right in front of us that we watched during the entire event. And a backward marching drum major fell right in it. Past her knee. And kept directing. Sweet Lord. Classic entertainment.

Mmm... also, the 4th was good fun. We watched the fireworks over Minneapolis, took in the Taste of Minnesota in St. Paul-- vowed to never again take in the Taste of Minnesota in St. Paul, and retreated to a remote cabin for libations, hi jinks, and canoeing. The cabin, being owned by the Guthriatic Tap Dweller's parents, provided Good Times.
Finally, I went with Yooly to see a quaking bog a short distance from my place. I'd never been on a "bog jog," despite frequent opportunities, so it was pretty cool. I did my part and pulled a few invasive Buckthorns. My father would be proud.

More to come, as soon as I get the 168 pictures that were taken this past weekend in Rockago--

It's good hearing from you! I'm sad you weren't able to come to Doozer's wedding last year - you were one of the few band people I was looking forward to seeing again. Ah well, we're still young and, if we're lucky, we'll have a lot more chances in the future to meet and catch up.
Till then, take care!
